About

Enterprise engineering, for the operations the big firms won’t quote

Small businesses, trades, civic groups, and professional practices have never had access to engineering you can audit: scoped before kickoff, documented at handoff, instrumented at launch, and measured after. Not because the work was too complex, but because the pricing was never built for them. GraceZero exists to close that gap.

We’re a data-driven product studio. That second word matters: a studio stays with the work. The build is where we start, not where we stop.

Two words. One promise.

Before Grace Hopper, computers spoke a language no human could read. In the 1950s she invented the first compiler. The tool that let humans write instructions a machine could actually follow. It took computing from zero to one. From a specialist’s tool to something the rest of us could use.

Grace is the discipline. Precision, elegance, intention. Doing things without waste and without shortcuts. The best automation is invisible. It runs in the background, perfectly, and nobody has to think about it. That’s the standard every build is held to.

GraceZero is the modern version of that bridge. The same translation problem, applied to Ai. Multi-agent workflows, custom web apps, automation that turns what Ai can do into what your operation actually needs to do. The black box becomes a system your people can run on Monday morning.

Zero is the standard. Zero defects, zero data loss, zero hidden costs, zero surprise failures. Reaching complete zero is impossible. No software has zero bugs, no system has zero risk. But aiming for it shapes every decision we make.

The firms that build with that kind of operational discipline quote six figures for what we scope, build, and walk through end-to-end. Same scope. Fraction of the price. That’s half the gap.

The other half is the one nobody talks about. Small businesses, trades, and civic groups haven’t lacked the budget. They’ve lacked someone in the room who can tell the difference between a real build and a freelancer who ships and disappears. So they get sold tools they didn’t need and a monthly bill that compounds.

GraceZero is built to be that person in the room. Every engagement (a web app, the measurement layer under it, an architecture review) gets scoped against what you actually need, not what’s easiest to sell.

It’s also why we don’t take the money and disappear. You can’t be data-driven and leave. Data-driven is the ongoing part: measuring how the software is really used, finding where it fails the people using it, and fixing that. A builder who ships and vanishes never learns whether any of it worked, and neither do you.

Three decades in enterprise IT. At Fortune 500 firms I worked as a Senior Enterprise Cloud and Analytics Platform Engineer, and as a Principal Data Engineer and Data Quality Lead. Data warehousing, BI architecture, data engineering, platform administration, and quality assurance at real scale.

The systems I spent 25+ years building and operating ran reliably for thousands of users across regionally distributed infrastructure. I wasn’t just the person who built them. I was the person who tested them until they broke, planned what happened when they failed, and was on call when they did.

Platforms include Tableau, Snowflake, Databricks, Cloudera, and Immuta. I hold AWS Certified Solutions Architect and Certified Product Owner credentials, trained in design thinking at MIT, have led DR planning and execution that passed 100% of contractual tests across multiple years, and have served as ETL developer and QA lead at code level.

That data history is why the measurement half of this business is real and not a slide. Most developers can’t do the data work. Most data people can’t ship a production web app. Doing both is the whole reason GraceZero can promise to build the software, instrument it, and prove whether it actually got better.

Underneath the engineering is a degree in game design and animation. Before the enterprise years I owned DoubleBill Productions LLC, producing work for the Illinois State Board of Education and the Adler Planetarium, including a NASA COTS proposal film for SpaceDev and SpaceShipOne.

The creative side comes from the same instinct as the technical work: the build only counts if real people actually want to use it.

That background doesn’t disappear when the project is small. It shapes what gets asked before a line of code is written, what gets tested before anything ships, and what gets documented before handoff. The shop, the practice, the studio, the site. None of them have ever had someone in their corner with this kind of operational experience. That’s the point.

GraceZero has grown past just me: a small team now works alongside me on the builds. Every engagement is still scoped and architected by me, and I’m still the one who answers the phone.

What Zero means for you.

  1. Zero broken pages. What you see is what we built. We catch data mismatches before they reach you.
  2. Zero guesswork.Decisions about your data, features, and bills are based on what’s actually true, not assumptions.
  3. Zero open doors.Every request to our servers is treated as if it could be hostile. Your data is protected at every layer.
  4. Zero shipping unverified.Code reaches you only after machines (hundreds of automated tests) and humans (visual review on every screen and device) both approve it.
  5. Zero Ai running free.We use Claude Opus and Sonnet to build features, but strict rules and human review catch model mistakes before you would.
  6. Zero hostage situations. We own our infrastructure. No cloud giant can hold us, or you, hostage to a vendor outage or price hike.
  7. Zero cost spirals.Predictable infrastructure means predictable pricing. Your subscription doesn’t balloon because traffic surged elsewhere.
  8. Zero invisible failures. When something breaks, we know within hours, not weeks. We don’t wait for you to tell us.
  9. Zero lost data.Your data is backed up multiple ways every day, and we test the recovery process regularly.
  10. Zero privacy theater. We collect only what’s necessary, tell you in plain language what we collect, and block ourselves at the database level from storing data we don’t need.

When we fall short of any of these, we tell you what happened, what changed, and what we’re doing to prevent it. Honest gaps are part of operating to a Zero standard. Hidden gaps are not.

The standard isn’t a slogan. See the actual monitoring at Hopper Ops → the same dashboard we check every morning, made public read-only.
